Volunteer Services

Volunteers are an important part of the Murphy Medical Center health care team. They are a special group of dedicated people who serve others in times of need and make our community a pleasant place to live.

Volunteer service is a creative outlet for skill and enthusiasm. For some it provides an opportunity to gain experience in the health care field that can help in making wise career choices. For others it is a chance to get out and make new friends. For all it is a way to gain the satisfaction that comes from helping others.

Volunteers serve in virtually all areas of the hospital and nursing home with the exception of the nursery, intensive care unit, and the operating room. For example, Volunteers help in the food services department, personnel, radiology, pharmacy, medical/surgical unit, the nursing home, maintenance, and clerk positions in various departments.

Volunteers are not limited to serving in these areas. If you have special skills or talents such as data processing or arts and crafts we can use your help.

The Volunteers are also very active in fundraising on behalf of MMC. Our Volunteers are truly the heart of our facility.

REQUIREMENTS: To become a volunteer, you must be of good character and possess a genuine desire to serve.

Active Volunteer members (adults) work year-round and are encouraged to serve a minimum of 60 hours per year. Annual dues are $10.00. Associate members are non-working members who may join the Volunteer Staff for a membership fee of $15.00. Honorary members are those who have joined the organization for life and have made a $100.00 contribution.

Junior Volunteers (ages 13-17) serve primarily in the summer months, although many continue to work on weekends and after school throughout the year. There are no dues for Junior Volunteers.
